Tropical Getaways for 12,000 Miles Round-Trip, Barclays Adds a Transfer Partner, and More Rules From the TSA
Here is a round-up of today’s travel news!
1. Delta Award Sale Including the Caribbean & Mexico!
Delta is having an award sale with discounted fares starting at 11,000 Delta miles + taxes & fees round-trip in coach! This is a significant discount from the normal award prices, so it’s a good deal if you can find flights that fit your schedule.
To get the deal you’ll need to book a round-trip coach flight by June 27, 2018, for travel between September 24 and November 16, 2018.
Some of the deals include:
- New York to Portland, Maine for 11,000 Delta miles
- New York to Bermuda for 12,000 Delta miles
- Seattle to Chicago for 15,000 Delta miles
- Atlanta to Cancun for 20,000 Delta miles
- San Jose, California to New York for 20,000 Delta miles
You can see all of the deals on Delta’s website.
2. The Barclays Arrival® Premier World Elite Mastercard® Card Adds a New Transfer Partner
The Barclays Arrival Premier card is getting a great new transfer partner!
You can now transfer Barclays Arrival Premier miles to Air Canada’s Aeroplan at a 1.7 Barclays Arrival miles to every 1 Aeroplan mile. You can also transfer to these other partners:
- Aeromexico (1.4:1)
- China Eastern (1.4:1)
- Etihad (1.4:1)
- EVA Air (1.4:1)
- Flying Blue (loyalty program of Air France and KLM) (1.4:1)
- Japan Airlines (1.7:1)
- Jet Privilege (1.4:1)
- Malaysia Airlines (1.4:1)
- Qantas (1.4:1)
The Aeroplan award chart does have some sweet spots, like being able to book one-way Business Class awards to Europe for only 55,000 Aeroplan miles! And they have generous routing rules, allowing 1 free stopover on award flights within North America and 2 free stopovers on international flights.
But before you book a flight with Aeroplan miles, be sure to review our post on avoiding fuel surcharges on Aeroplan award flights.
Keep in mind that Barclays Arrival Premier miles transfer at a ratio of between 1.4:1 and 1.7:1, depending on the transfer partner. So they aren’t as useful as other transferable points like Chase Ultimate Rewards points or AMEX Membership Rewards points.
3 Southwest Extends Double Points Promotion
Southwest has extended the deadline for their Double Points promotion!
Originally you could earn double Southwest points on all flights booked and flown before June 13, 2018. Now you can earn the same bonus on flights booked and taken before June 30, 2018.
Only flights reserved after you registered for the promotion will earn the bonus. If you’ve already registered for this promotion, you don’t need to register again.

4. TSA Pushing Foreign Airports to Clamp Down on Powders
Recently the TSA has been taking a closer look at powders. And they are going to require foreign airports with direct flights to the US to do the same.
The focus is on containers that are roughly the size of a soda can or bigger. While this isn’t a ban of powders per se, it’s best to put any large containers of protein powders or spices in checked luggage if you can, to avoid extra scrutiny.
